Documentation Centre Oriental Christians in the Near East and India (DOCNOI)

A cooperation between the Oriental Institute of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and the Special Subject Collection Middle East and North Africa (SSG Vorderer Orient und Nord Afrika) at the university and federal state library Saxony-Anhalt in Halle (ULB Halle)

Scientific research on oriental Christians has a long tradition at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and is currently represented by the only remaining professorship for the Science study of the Oriental Christianity in Germany.

In order to manifest and expand Halle’s significane in research on Oriental Christians in past and present time, the “Documentation Centre Oriental Christians in the Middle East and India” (DOCNOI) was founded recently.

The DOCNOI collects all accessible materials within reach produced by Christian communities in the Middle East and India which are not available via the regular book-market. Our special focus lies on documents by Christians living in countries in which Christianity is not state or majority religion.

The collected documents constitute “grey literature”, together with pictures, films and audio documents.

How do we access these documents?

Cooperating institutions and organisations in the countries of interest transmit documents to us, members and students of the Oriental Institute in Halle collect material during expeditions, donations are also very welcome.

We are grateful for receiving any material sent to us. For further information click contact.

DOCNOI understands itself as a service for everybody, who is in possession of documents, texts, pictures, etc. from Oriental Christian communities and wishes to give them in ULB’s custody and thereby provide researchers with otherwise inaccessible documents.
We guarantee that your donation will be integrated carefully in the stock of ULB.
All materials can be viewed and accessed through the online catalogue of the ULB.
